ALEXANDRE GUILMANT (1837-1911)
Première Messe
à quatre voix Solo’s et Choeurs avec Orchestre ou Orgue (Opus 6)

Alexandre Guilmant composed his ”first mass for four voices” in 1855 and dedicated it to his father. According to the original title page it can be performed with either an orchestra or organ. This is one of his early works; he was just 18 years old. Didn’t the mass (Messa di Gloria) written by a young Puccini also become popular years after it had been written? Guilmant opens with the Kyrie Alla Palestrina which was probably a composition exercise, written while he was a music student, to familiarise himself with Palestrina’s style. The theme originates from Dumont’s ”La Messe du 6e ton” . Guilmant’ own style is clearly recognisable in the other parts of this work.
We’ve chosen to publish the version for: choir, four soloists (or small choir) and organ.

WIM DIRRIWACHTER
Un wa e loo

During his travels in Benin (Western Africa) Wim Dirriwachter came across some African songs. This inspired him to write a series of nine compositions. They can be performed by a choir and piano, an unaccompanied choir or a choir and 8 instrumentalists, but always with an African percussion instrument. His work is published in a facsimile edition, and invites choirs to experience the typical African rhythm for themselves.

CLASSICAL CHORAL SONG BOOKS
Part I: Nature
Classical choral compositions edited by Gerben van der Veen

In addition to the many new works we publish, we're now working hard to complete a series of accessible classical choral compositions. Based on a certain theme, choirmaster Gerben van der Veen has selected some choral compositions which can be included in a performance or concert. Each choir can of course make their own selection from this collection. The themes of all collections can be divided into two groups: sacred and secular compositions. Because of our wide representation of sacred compositions, we will publish the collections of secular compositions first.
